Prince George's delegation moves favorably on WSSC procurement changes (PGMC 10236/HB1230)

The Prince George's County House Delegation voted favorably on PGMC 10236 (HB1230), a Montgomery County–amended bill that alters provisions related to the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission's office of supplier diversity and inclusion and the commission's business participation program.

Legal counsel summarized the amendment: the bill repeals the office's current statutory name and directs the commission to adopt regulations to establish the office's name; it renames the local small business enterprise program to a business participation program, adjusts eligibility, and permits the commission to adopt rules to promote workforce engagement and local economic benefit in its service district. The uncodified language in the bill states it is not intended to affect the minority business enterprise program.

Members noted the Montgomery County delegation had reported a 21‑0 favorable committee vote. A WSSC representative on the call, Mr. Harley, told delegates the commission had no outstanding questions and expressed appreciation for the dialogue and amendments.

A motion and second were recorded and the delegation completed a roll call; the chair announced the bill "passes favorably" after votes were read. The delegation also asked that the WSSC and sponsoring delegates continue to collaborate on implementing regulations and workforce provisions.
