Council ratifies quantities and expenditures for 2026 crack-seal project

The Washington Terrace City Council unanimously ratified the quantity and expenditures for the 2026 crack-seal project at its July 7 meeting.

Public Works Director Jake Meibos said the city is in the third year of a three-year, tonnage-based contract with Asphalt Preservation and reported 11 tons of crack seal were used this year. He noted that expenditures above $25,000 must come before the council and that actual tonnage is hard to predict in advance; ratification keeps the annual projects moving and locks in price under the multi-year contract. "It is hard to determine how much tonnage will be used before the project begins," Meibos said. The motion to ratify was moved by Council Member Michael Thomas, seconded by Council Member Jeff West, and approved unanimously (4-0).

Council Member Cheryl Parkinson asked that contractor flyers for chip sealing include timeframes for when residents can resume driving on treated roads; Meibos agreed to pass that suggestion to contractors. Meibos said striping and slurry seal work remain and that the contract will go out to bid next year as this is the contract's final year.
