Erie County engagement officer reports June emergency-response totals and preparedness steps

John Staelen, Erie County's countywide engagement officer, provided a June 2026 public safety update, saying the county's 911 center answered 10,254 emergency calls and 2,300 non-emergency calls last month.

Staelen said dispatchers coordinated 7,979 law-enforcement incidents, about 3,600 emergency medical responses and roughly 730 fire incidents across Erie County during June. "Last month, our 9 11 center answered 10,254 emergency calls and 2,300 non emergency calls," he said, adding the totals for coordinated law-enforcement, EMS and fire responses.

He said the public safety team remained focused on preparedness. "Erie County CERT volunteers completed their monthly training and are supporting cooling stations in the city of Erie during this recent heat spill," Staelen said, noting volunteer support at local cooling locations.

Staelen also announced that more than 600 residents have signed up for Erie County's new emergency notification system and urged others to enroll: "If you haven't yet, enroll. Now's the time." He reminded residents that the county's quarterly outdoor siren test is scheduled for July 15 and that hearing sirens on that day indicates a scheduled test.

The briefing closed with Staelen thanking dispatchers, first responders, CERT volunteers and the public safety team for their work keeping Erie County safe.
