The Bel-Nor Board of Aldermen voted Jan. 19 to approve a landscaping services ordinance with Tennant Landscaping (Bill No. 1210, Ord. No. 1176) following a second reading and a unanimous roll-call vote.
A resident questioned whether the landscaping contract price was too high for the city's needs. Mayor Anna Vogel responded that the city cannot change a contract without data and noted the city increased service this year to take on duties formerly maintained by volunteers. Alderman Ryan Brockschmitt moved for the ordinance's second reading and Alderman Evelyn Days seconded; the ordinance was later put to a vote and recorded as passed.
Why it matters: the contract governs routine maintenance of public rights-of-way and other city-maintained properties; changes to service level can affect the city's budget and the appearance and safety of public spaces.
The minutes state Tennant has been a reliable provider and that if service changes are desired, the board will gather data to evaluate service levels before making adjustments.
