Board approves two collective-bargaining agreements, including 2.25% annual teacher raise

The Middletown Board of Education on July 2 approved two memoranda of agreement with employee bargaining units covering teachers and teaching assistants.

Superintendent Amy Creedon summarized the amendment with the Middletown Teachers Association (MTA) as a two‑year contract amendment that includes contractual raises of 2.25% for each year and an increase in employee contributions to health insurance. Creedon said the amendment was ratified by the bargaining unit with strong support, describing ratification figures as “80%, 87% approval.” The board approved the MOA by voice vote.

The board also approved a five‑year agreement with the MTAO, the unit representing teaching assistants and other support staff. Superintendent Creedon said the MTAO agreement was intended to “level set the base salaries for our teaching assistants,” and reported that the agreement passed the bargaining unit with 100% approval. Trustees expressed appreciation for both bargaining units and the administration’s work in reaching the agreements.

Board members said the deals reflect the district’s effort to retain instructional and support staff while staying within budgetary constraints. The board recorded the approvals during routine business and did not add amendments on the floor.
