Crawford County commissioners approve $23,500 purchase of used Chevy Tahoe for sheriff’s office

County Counselor Jim Emerson told the Crawford County Board of Commissioners on June 26 that a used 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe equipped for law-enforcement use was available from the City of Colwich for $23,500, and that the sheriff’s special law enforcement fund (vin inspection fees) had $37,310 to cover the purchase.

Emerson said the vehicle has about 60,000 miles and that the purchase would not require a budget transfer — the county would simply cut a check from the special fund. "It is pretty cheap for a 2020 vehicle," Chairman Bruce Blair said during the discussion.

On motion 26-297 by Commissioner Tom Moody, seconded by Commissioner Carl Wood, the board approved the purchase; the record lists Commissioners Moody, Wood and Blair as voting yea.

Why it matters: the purchase addresses the Sheriff’s Department’s stated need for used vehicles and is funded from restricted law-enforcement receipts rather than the general budget.

What’s next: County officials will complete the purchase from the City of Colwich and the vehicle will be added to Sheriff’s Department inventory.
