Council votes to seek intervenor status on Gypsy Hills solar project for local input

Councilman Detlin reported on a recent public information session for the Gypsy Hills solar project and recommended that Dorchester County file a notice of intent to intervene in the Public Service Commission docket to secure intervenor status and receive all applicant filings.

Council members said filing intent to intervene would not commit the county to a position on the project but would allow staff and council to receive filings, attend hearings and ask questions of the applicant. A staff member noted that in a prior Blue Crab Solar case intervenor status allowed the county to participate in early hearings and obtain material that helped local decision-making.

Council voted to file the notice of intent to intervene by voice vote. The motion passed with council members emphasizing that intervention status is a way to preserve local input and monitoring rather than an immediate advocacy position.
