Resident urges city action over conditions at sober-living home on 104 N. Main

Christie Fietd, a resident who lives next door to a sober-living residence at 104 N. Main, addressed the Archie Board of Aldermen on Jan. 13, saying residents at the property have experienced repeated utility disconnections and poor living conditions. Fietd said she had investigated the property owner’s rental history in other municipalities and found similar issues, and she asked whether the city could pursue condemnation or other legal steps.

The board agreed to contact the city attorney to determine what legal remedies are available and discussed whether to seek outside contracting for codes enforcement to address repeated housing complaints. Chief Trevor Zaharsky said the police department had contacted residents of the facility and other neighbors and asked anyone with similar concerns to document incidents and report them to the Police Department so it can “address it immediately.”

No formal action—such as an order to inspect, a condemnation hearing, or a code-enforcement contract—was recorded at the meeting. The board directed staff to consult the city attorney and continue discussing options to address the reported habitability and safety concerns.

Next steps: the city will consult with the attorney about legal options and will continue to discuss potential outside contracting for codes enforcement; neighbors were asked to document and report incidents to the Police Department.
