Committee approves ditch and dust control for temporary Manchester Road parking lot

The Brentwood Public Works Committee voted on Jan. 8 to recommend that staff install a V-shaped drainage ditch and apply dust-suppression measures at the north temporary parking lot on Manchester Road.

Dan, public works staff, described engineering calculations that indicate the proposed ditch (approximately 12 inches deep with 3–4 feet of side slope on either side, varying by location) would handle roughly 1.8 cubic feet per second of runoff without eroding the grass lining. He proposed testing two commercially available dust-control products on a city rock lot before broader use in the north lot to ensure no discoloration or vehicle residue.

"We're gonna try some areas on our rock lot on public works and see how well it works," Dan said, describing a granular product and a spray mixture as the two options under evaluation.

A motion to have staff install the drainage ditch at 8615 Manchester Road and apply dust control was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. Staff will monitor the lots to determine whether the temporary parking remains necessary; staff said it will return to the full board with a request to renew the temporary-permit period for six months to observe seasonal demand.

Committee members noted the likely loss of only one stall and suggested that a permanent lot could be addressed in future redevelopment.
