Elkhorn Public Schools board approves personnel appointments, athletic cooperation and early graduations; policy updates carried over

The Elkhorn Public Schools Board of Education met on July 6, 2026, and approved routine district business including personnel appointments, an athletic cooperative agreement and early graduation requests. President A. Parks noted the meeting complied with the Open Meetings Act and that advance notice had been published in the Omaha World-Herald.

During the meeting’s Good News Report the board recognized ERMS sixth grader Skylar Hinkle for collecting and donating 240 books for NICU families and incoming ESHS freshman Xi (Cindy) Lin for finishing second in the Nebraska state round of the National Civics Bee. The board also congratulated 11 members of the EPS Class of 2026 who earned a perfect 36 on the ACT and noted ESHS junior Markus Gorup was selected as one of 24 members of Team Nebraska for the Stinger High School National Championship baseball tournament. The board announced Elkhorn North High School won the NSAA "Buckle Up, Phone Down" Cup for Class B All-School, Girls and Boys divisions for 2025-26.

On motions from the floor, the board approved the consent agenda — which included the meeting agenda, June 8, 2026 minutes, exchange student approvals and July bills — on a 5-0 vote after a motion by board member M. Wortman and a second by board member N. Rogic-Greufe. The board then approved the appointments of Allison Abraham and Carissa Gronenthal for the 2026-27 school year following a motion by N. Rogic-Greufe and second by S. Ringenberg; the vote was recorded as unanimous among members present.

Board member M. Wortman moved, with a second from J. Shatel, to approve updates to several policies (Policy 706.03 – Bids and Contracts; Policy 502.03 – Option Enrollment; Administrative Rules to implement Policy 504.02 – Conduct and Discipline Code; Policy 503.02 – Attendance; and Policy 502.11 – Extra Curricular Activities). The motion was recorded as a carry-over and no vote was taken; the matter will return for future consideration.

The board approved an NSAA Cooperative Program Renewal Agreement covering all three Elkhorn high schools for Swimming, Diving and Girls Wrestling for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years after a motion by N. Rogic-Greufe and a second by J. Shatel; the vote was unanimous. The board also adopted a resolution finding the training requirements set forth in State statutes to be reasonable in length following a motion by N. Rogic-Greufe and a second by J. Shatel; that resolution passed on a unanimous vote.

Finally, the board approved early graduation requests recommended by high school principals from Elkhorn North, Elkhorn South and Elkhorn High School on a motion by S. Ringenberg and a second by N. Rogic-Greufe; the vote was unanimous. The meeting adjourned at 7:11 PM. The next Regular Monthly Meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 10, 2026, at 6:30 PM in the Board Room at the District Office, 20650 Glenn Street, Elkhorn.
