Commission approves $20,000 city match for Munising Bay Overlook land acquisition

The Munising City Commission approved a budget amendment to support acquisition of more than 300 acres that includes the Munising Bay Overlook, adding a $20,000 city contribution to complete grant-funded purchases.

S3 described the sale and said paperwork had recently gained traction: staff expects to close on the land before the end of the fiscal year and requested the city contribute $20,000 in match. "Basically, we're trying to acquire... about 300 plus acres of land using a couple of grants and then city match, which is $20,000," S3 said.

Commissioners asked questions about line-item amounts and related engineering and boat-launch costs. S2 asked what a $44,317.29 item represented; S8 explained the $44,317.29 covered the boat launch phase 1 and phase 2 engineering costs. Commissioners confirmed the budget amendment to transfer $20,000 from the general fund and moved to approve the adjustments; the motion carried.

The amendment also bundled several small budget adjustments (including tasers and other listed items). Staff said documentation would be clarified for the record and reiterated that some items had been pre-approved at a prior meeting.

Next steps: staff will finalize closing paperwork and provide any additional documentation the commission requests before final disbursement.
