Greer updates: mural work resumes, greenway boardwalks progress and free "Elf" screening

Joel Eaves, host of the Greer View program, reported a series of community updates for Greer this week: mural work will resume, a historic walking tour is scheduled, construction continues on a greenway, and the city will present a free screening of the movie "Elf" in City Park.

Eaves said crews will resume work on the city’s Greer 150 mural this week after a break for the Fourth of July holiday. He reported that artist Adam Shrimmer of Blank Canvas designed the mural using a photograph of downtown Greer from the 1940s and that Shrimmer has been working on the mural on the side of the old Davenport building since last month.

The Greer Heritage Museum will host a behind-the-scenes tour called Greer Uncovered on July 18. The event is free but Eaves said participants should register so the museum team can plan shuttle transportation; a ticket link is posted on the city’s Greer 150 webpage.

On the South Tiger River Greenway, Eaves reported crews are building boardwalks this week and that the next major task will be pouring concrete steps. He said this phase of the trail is expected to be complete by the end of the month; the transcript did not specify which month.

Families can get a "Christmas in July" experience when Moonlight Movies presents a free screening of the film "Elf" in Greer City Park. Eaves noted pre-show activities and crafts will begin at 6:00 p.m., with the movie scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m., and encouraged attendees to bring blankets, chairs and money for concessions.
