Fayette County Schools swears in three board members, elects leadership and fills representative posts

The Fayette County Schools board on July 6, 2006 swore in three new board members — James Pat Gray, Joseph Groom and Diane Cullison — and completed a slate of leadership and representative appointments.

The board convened the evening with a ceremonial swearing-in performed by a judge, during which each new member recited the oath to support the constitutions of the United States and the State of West Virginia and to faithfully discharge the duties of office. "I, James Pat Gray, do solemnly swear ... to the best of my skill and judgment," Gray said during the oath, which was followed by applause.

After the swearing-in the board moved to business. A motion was made and seconded to appoint Pat Gray as board president; members voted in favor and Gray resumed the gavel. The board then opened nominations for vice president and elected Sydney Whitlock after a nomination and second were made.

The panel also filled several external representative roles. Josh Chris was nominated and approved as the board's representative to the Southern Education Services Cooperative though the transcript notes Mr. Chris was not present to respond. Joby Groom was nominated and agreed to continue as the board's representative to the West Virginia Extension Services; that motion carried with a recorded 5-0 vote. Diane Cullison was approved as the board's representative to the FG County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and Sydney Whitlock was approved as the representative to the Family Resource Network.

The meeting included light ceremonial remarks and concluded with the board setting its next meetings for July 14 and July 28 at 6 p.m. at the board office.
