At the July 2 work session the council reviewed an annexation petition from OM Shiv Property LLC asking to annex 1.529 acres on Lee Road into city limits and concurrently rezone the parcels from county CG (commercial) to the city’s GC (general commercial).
Community Development Director Dana Gray told council the applicant proposes a restaurant and a convenience store with gas pumps. Gray noted the parcels are surrounded by city property and explained that annexation and rezoning would proceed concurrently and, if approved by the city, be forwarded to the county for a required review period.
Council members recalled a similar 2024 application that was withdrawn and included a proposed liquor store, which had been denied. Council asked clarifying questions about whether variances would be required; staff said any variances would be considered later. Council agreed to forward the petition for county review and to place the item on the consent agenda for the July 6 meeting.
Why it matters: Annexation and rezoning would change jurisdiction and allow a commercial development with fuel sales at a location council discussed previously; neighbors and nearby businesses may be affected by change in land use and traffic patterns.
