Council honors dispatcher, expands library fine‑free circulation and approves event grants

The City of West Bend common council on July 6 adopted a resolution honoring Dispatcher Kim Wendleborn for 25 years of service to the West Bend Police Department. Wendleborn addressed the council and thanked colleagues.

The council also received reports and approvals on several administrative items: the Library Board voted June 16 to expand fine‑free service beyond children's materials to include traditional circulating items (books, audiobooks, DVDs and magazines), while keeping overdue charges for designated special collections (adventure passes, Library of Things) and maintaining lost/damage replacement charges; staff reported the summer reading program had more than 500 participants.

The Tourism Commission awarded two major event grants of $10,000 each — one to the Midwest Glass & Art Expo and one to Wings and Wheels — and previewed upcoming events including Title Town's Aqua Park recognition and a promotional day at the Wisconsin State Fair.

Council approved a supplemental list of election inspector appointments for the August 11 partisan primary and discussed inspector duties and training (a typical ~two-hour clerk-led training before each election with optional Wisconsin Election Commission online courses). The council moved into closed session under Wis. Stat. §19.85(1)(e) to negotiate an intergovernmental agreement; roll call was taken and the council adjourned into closed session and later reported no action taken from closed session in the public record.
