Council approves change order for downtown parking and restroom facilities project

Wetumpka’s City Council approved change order number one for the downtown parking and restroom facilities project at its July 6 meeting after staff described unexpected underground conditions that required sewer lateral repairs and other fixes.

Staff said the project is active across five sites and that the parking lot site will be completed first. Council members asked where restrooms would be located; staff listed sites near the Hannes property parking lot, near the arena where the girls' cages had been, a larger unit near the tennis courts, one in the park, and one in Millbro (in front of the dog/pickleball courts). When complete, officials said the city will have 14 pickleball courts citywide.

The council moved, seconded and approved the change order with no recorded opposition. The motion authorizes the necessary repairs and time adjustments to handle the underground issues; staff estimated the change orders will allow continued progress with an anticipated follow-up in roughly 120 days for additional updates.

Staff did not provide a line-item cost for the change order during the meeting; council members requested progress updates as the sites move toward completion.
