High school proposes job shadows and micro‑internships to introduce students to civil service

Council Member Teeman introduced a proposal from Dr. Samuel Martin (University City High School) for two related programs: short job‑shadowing 'day in the life' experiences and deeper summer 'micro‑internships' that would give students hands‑on exposure to civil service roles. Teeman framed the initiative as a way to revitalize interest in public‑sector careers and to replace misconceptions with direct experience.

Staff recommended forwarding the proposal to Chris (staff) to conduct outreach with departments and determine whether the city could craft a program that fits University City’s operations. Dr. Martin indicated willingness to work closely with staff to implement a pilot.

Council expressed support and asked that staff report back on logistics, insurance and scheduling considerations; no formal vote or funding was requested at this meeting.
