Sparta Board adopts 2019 tax levy

The Sparta Board of Aldermen adopted an ordinance establishing the 2019 tax levy after first and second readings and a public hearing, the board recorded at its Aug. 20, 2019 meeting. Mayor Jenni Davis presided; the motion to adopt Bill No. 19‑003 was carried by roll call with the aldermen voting aye.

The action followed the public hearing announced at 6:00 p.m. and standard readings by title. The board treated the levy as a routine annual action to set property‑tax assessment authority for the municipal budget year; no amendment or substantive debate was recorded in the minutes.

By adopting the ordinance, the board completed the procedural steps required under local law for municipal tax levies. The minutes show a unanimous vote of those present on Aug. 20 (Aldermen Iorg, Guerin and Stapp voting aye; Alderman Gunter absent at that meeting). The board reaffirmed the levy by roll call and recorded the ordinance number and readings on the meeting record.

The most recent subsequent meeting minutes list related financial approvals and continuing budget oversight but do not record additional public testimony on the tax levy. The board’s next regular session remained scheduled per the meeting calendar and the levy takes effect under the schedule the ordinance specifies.
