Saline County woman credited with saving husband’s life after wasp sting; experts urge CPR training

A Saline County couple described a near-fatal incident when Keith Scott went into cardiac arrest after what the broadcast described as a wasp sting while the family was on a lake outing. His wife, Lane Scott, who had CPR training from her work as a teacher, performed CPR and helped save his life.

In the broadcast account, doctors told the family Keith’s chance of surviving an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest was about 10 percent; witnesses and a medical representative noted that immediate CPR can substantially increase survival odds. "Had she not started CPR, had she waited for emergency services, it may not have been a CPR safe story," the report said, and an American Heart Association representative, Nikki Smith, said this was the second recent local account of CPR saving a life.

The Scotts urged others to learn CPR and credited the training that allowed Lane to act. The broadcast did not include clinical records or hospital statements beyond the reporters' summary of medical comments.
