Prairie View EDC to enter talks with city on shared office space; lease quotes reviewed

The Prairie View EDC reviewed proposals for a temporary modular office near city hall and voted to enter negotiations with the city over price, location and scope.

Board members reviewed two modular options: a smaller 24-by-64 unit with a rough monthly charge near $2,400 and a larger unit closer to $3,000. Directors discussed practical matters including storage consolidation, janitorial and utilities costs, the potential to split rent with the city, and whether to rent or buy furniture to reduce the upfront expense. Members emphasized that using an office would reduce the recurring $2,400 annual storage cost and provide a public-facing meeting location near city hall.

The board voted to pursue more information and formal negotiations with the city, including a site inspection and pricing details. Directors suggested the EDC could advertise its real-estate module on the website and use a new office as a central point for developers, prospective tenants and public meetings while the EDC advances its strategic plan.

Why it matters: A centrally located office would give the EDC a consistent public presence, provide file storage, and make it simpler to meet with developers and city staff in person. Cost-sharing with the city was discussed as a way to keep the immediate expenses within the board’s budget guidance.
