Council approves updated city attorney terms, including 20% insurance contribution; vote 3–1

The City Council voted to approve a resolution updating the city attorney position effective Jan. 1, 2026, including compensation and duties changes. Mayor Seffert presented the measure and said the principal change was that "the attorney will participate in a 20% payment of insurance just like everyone else in the city is doing." The council approved the measure by a voice/roll call vote of 3–1–0.

Council discussion identified a few minor edits: one responsibility line was removed from the list because the duty already appears in the city charter, and the standard work week for the position was set at 25 hours. The salary as discussed during the meeting was $93,857 and members noted that the salary appears consistent with the current city attorney line item in the budget.

A commissioner recorded the lone dissenting vote. No amendment to the resolution changed the insurance contribution requirement; the resolution as presented passed.

The council then moved on to routine personnel and finance items after the vote.
