Regional economic development body secures revenue-sharing approvals; Scott County accepts RIFFA checks

Representatives of the Lonesome Pine Regional Industrial Facilities Authority asked the Scott County Board of Supervisors to reaffirm the county’s membership, ratify a revenue-sharing agreement, and recognize revenue from two buildings at a regional site.

William Wampler and Dwayne Miller described recent economic development successes in the RIFFA region, including two new employers at the Norton site and plans to market the regional industrial park. They said the RIFFA had revenue from assessed values to distribute and asked the board to adopt four resolutions: reaffirm membership; ratify the revenue-sharing format; and recognize revenue for a 28,000‑square‑foot building and a 20,000‑square‑foot building.

The board approved the four resolutions by voice vote. As part of the presentation, the RIFFA offered two checks to Scott County: $5,500 (the county’s annual contribution) and a $4,500 distribution described as 'profit' from RIFFA activity; both checks were handed to county officials during the meeting. Supervisors praised the regional approach to economic development and discussed continuing coordination with neighboring localities.

Board members said the revenue sharing will be administered via the Norton treasurer and that the county has appointed the county administrator and economic developer as its representatives to RIFFA per prior resolution.
