Savor the Bronx restaurant week will run Monday, July 6 through Sunday, July 12, organizers announced at a kickoff brunch at Drip Restaurant and Lounge in Wakefield, the Bronx.
Andrew Ridgie, executive director of the New York City Hospitality Alliance, said the week is intended to give residents and visitors “an opportunity to go across the borough to have great meals for great deals,” with participating restaurants offering prix-fixe menus or special promotions. “It is an opportunity to eat well, but also do good by supporting small businesses and workers across the borough this summer,” Ridgie said.
The event’s organizers — the Bronx Tourism Council and the Bronx Economic Development Corporation, in partnership with the Office of the Bronx Borough President — said the roster includes more than 45 restaurants and that the number is likely to top 50 as sign-ups continued into the weekend before the program. Julius Drake of the Bronx Tourism Council said the first 250 people who follow @bronx.tourism will be eligible for a $20 Lyft credit to travel to a participating restaurant.
“Every meal purchased during restaurant week is an investment in Bronx business, Bronx jobs, as well as communities that they serve,” Winston Peters, president of the Bronx Economic Development Corporation, said at the event.
Vanessa L. Gibson, Bronx Borough President, said Savor the Bronx highlights the borough’s cultural and culinary diversity and can boost tourism and local commerce. “We want the Bronx to lead in all things when it comes to economic development, job creation, tourism, boosting the economy, and highlighting the beauty of the Bronx,” Gibson said, noting partnerships with community boards, chambers of commerce and other local organizations.
Organizers also emphasized city support and resources. Jeffrey Garcia, executive director of the Office of Nightlife at New York City Small Business Services, urged restaurant owners to take advantage of city programs that offer training, compliance help and financing tools. He directed listeners to nyc.gov/businesses and nyc.gov/ofnightlife for details on available assistance.
Host Drip Restaurant and Lounge offered a preview menu for the event; Leslie Hope, a spokesperson for Drip, encouraged attendees to visit participating restaurants and noted Drip’s $45 prix-fixe offering for the week. Organizers closed the program by thanking sponsors and media partners, and urging the public to visit ilovethebronx.com for the full list of participating restaurants and promotions.
The kickoff included remarks from numerous partners and local leaders and concluded with organizers reminding attendees to claim Lyft credits and plan visits during July 6–12.
