Selectmen approve $428,262.48 in payments, accept police resignation and recognize local business

The Somers Board of Selectmen approved scheduled payments, accepted a resignation from the police department and added a Board of Finance resignation to the agenda at the July 2 meeting.

The board approved payments totaling $428,262.48 on a voice vote. The board also accepted the resignation of Police Officer Shannon Belcher, effective July 1, 2026; the acceptance was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.

Earlier in the meeting the board voted to add the resignation of Mike Parker from the Board of Finance as an urgent item; that item will be taken up under new business. The Economic Development Commission presented the June 2026 Business of the Month award to Eastwood's Auto Machine, a family-owned automotive machine and engine-rebuilding shop operating in the Somers Old Mill.

What happens next: the town clerk and finance staff will process the payments and personnel paperwork; the board will take up the added Board of Finance resignation as new business in this or a future meeting.
