Plymouth Civil Service Commission certifies police eligibility list and approves three ranked hiring slates

The Plymouth Civil Service Commission on July 2 certified a list of 23 potential police candidates and approved three ranked three-person slates — labeled Lists A, B and C — that the department will use in that order as hires are made.

Chair Chris Olik led the certification after the commission returned from an executive session on personnel matters. Lieutenant Wack presented the scoring basis for the list, saying candidates were ranked on written tests, physical tests and background evaluations. A motion to accept the 23-name eligibility list was made and seconded and the commission approved it.

Commission members then reviewed three ranked slates of three candidates each, dated July 2, 2026, which the commission approved as List A (top three), List B (secondary three) and List C (third-ranked alternates). The commission discussed using the A/B/C ordering when making offers and asked to be kept informed as candidates accept or are removed from the list.

Solicitor Scott Badami later confirmed the notification and appeal process the commission followed: the top 50 candidates received 'moving on' notices, 137 received thank‑you letters, and those advancing were told they had 10 days to file an appeal; no appeals were filed during the windows described by the solicitor.

The commission did not provide a roll-call, member-by-member vote tally for the hiring motions in the transcript; approvals were announced verbally (motions were seconded and the chair declared the items approved). The meeting concluded with a request that staff provide updates as hires proceed.

Next steps: staff will notify the commission as candidates accept appointments or are removed from the certified lists, and Lieutenant Wack said the department hopes to complete hires in the coming weeks.
