Cobb County lists July events, including Safety Day and two free back-to-school drives

Shelly Weidner of Cobb County Communications outlined family and community events in July, including Fourth of July celebrations, the final Family Fun Safety Day of the summer on July 22, and free back-to-school events hosted by the District Attorney's office and the Cobb County Sheriff's Office.

Fourth of July: several cities across Cobb County will host live music, food and fireworks over the holiday weekend; event dates, times and locations are available at cobbcounty.gov.

Safety Day: the final Family Fun Safety Day is Wednesday, July 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Cobb County Safety Village, 1220 Al Bishop Drive in Marietta. Activities include climbing inside emergency vehicles, a puppet show and safety information. Admission is $5 per person with a maximum of $20 per family; no registration is required. "The last family fun Safety Day of the summer is coming up and you don't want to miss it," Weidner said.

Back-to-school events: the District Attorney's office will hold a free back-to-school event Saturday, July 18 from noon to 4:00 p.m. at 277 Fairground Street SE in Marietta featuring free school supplies, backpacks, haircuts, face painting and food from Whataburger. The Cobb County Sheriff's Office Free Back to School Bash returns Friday, July 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Jim R. Miller Park; Weidner noted that "last year, more than 2,900 families showed up." Both events are free and open to the public.
