Commission hears update on water capacity; river plant to reach 10–12M gallons/day when fully online

Commissioner Hardy updated the Berkeley County Commission on recent waterboard developments and capacity planning. Hardy said the county currently averages roughly 7.6 million gallons per day in treated water output and expects combined plant capacity to reach about 10–12 million gallons per day when new facilities are completed and running at full capacity.

Hardy reported that the health department approved the Hatchery Road water tank, which should improve storage and pressure for that service area. She also said new membranes have been installed and are functioning at the river water treatment plant, enabling an improved treatment process that includes backwashing to clean membranes.

The commissioner noted the county purchases some water from the City of Martinsburg when needed, and she framed water production and distribution as central to county growth planning: "water is key to the county's growth," she said.
