Logansport City board approves July 4th street closures, event permits and routine claims

The Logansport Board of Public Works and Safety approved routine claims and a set of event and construction permits at its July 1 meeting.

Mayor Jacob Homicell called the session to order at 3:00 p.m., and the board voted to approve claims listed in the packet, which the clerk summarized as totaling $37,614.54 with additional line items noted for pension pay and other allocations.

Jan of the parks department asked the board to grant a variance to the city’s noise ordinance for an event at Riverside Park that will include music and fireworks running through 11 p.m. “We did send a a personal letter out to those folks,” Jan said, referring to nearby neighbors; the board approved the variance by roll call.

The board also approved a street-closure request for July 4 that will close Riverside Drive (and Densel Drive) from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. for community festivities, and a separate street-closure permit for tree removal on July 8 at 10 1/10 North 6th Street with a detour via Hannah and Henry streets.

A request from All Saints Catholic Parish to intermittently close an alley on Sunday mornings during the academic year for youth faith-formation drop-off was approved; staff said the closure affects one adjacent residence. The board approved a street closure for the Cass County Rooers’ car show on Aug. 22 (Fourth Street between Broadway and Market, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.) while preserving access to the PNC Bank and Security Federal ATM.

The board granted a curb/street-cut permit to QC Communications (working for Comcast) to install a power supply near 515 F Street between July 13 and Sept. 11, and approved a slate of electrical licenses for seven applicants listed on the agenda.

All motions on permits and licenses carried on roll-call votes with the members present voting in the affirmative. The meeting materials included the specific applicants and dates for each permit.
