Board fines property $250 after code enforcement reports multiple violations at 716 Bait Street

The Logansport Board of Public Works and Safety voted on July 1 to impose a $250 fine on the property at 716 Bait Street after code-enforcement staff reported multiple trash and debris violations.

Randy, presenting the weekly code-enforcement update, told the board staff had issued 17 new trash notices the prior week, cleared 32 properties, had 18 pending cases, issued nine citations and carried out one cleanup. On vehicle enforcement he said staff tagged seven cars, issued two vehicle citations, cleared two and towed three, and reported 20 cars pending. On grass complaints he said staff sent 30 notices and completed 196 inspections for the week.

On 716 Bait Street, Randy reported the property is a rental currently under contract purchase and that the apparent response from occupants was to cover debris with a tarp rather than remove it. Randy said staff had sent letters to the owner and contract holder and recommended a $250 fine for multiple violations; the board voted to assess the fine and noted staff will schedule any necessary cleanup work.

The board’s motions and votes were recorded at roll call; no representative for 716 Bait Street appeared at the meeting. The board’s action imposes the fine; scheduling and any cleanup were described as staff responsibilities to follow up.
