Beautification board outlines coin hunt and entertainment for Dadeville's 250th/Lake Martin centennial week

The Dadeville Beautification Board told the council about community events planned for the city's observance of the United States' 250th anniversary and Lake Martin's 100th anniversary.

Elaine Forbus said the board organized a 'gold rush coin hunt' using painted tokens roughly the size of a silver dollar that participating businesses will place for the public to find. Businesses decide prizes to award; Forbus said the aim is to bring foot traffic into participating businesses and encourage residents to discover local shops. She said more than 300 coins had been spoken for by businesses at the time of her report.

The board also organized entertainment on the courthouse lawn — including local youth performers Ran Downing, his uncle Randall, and Levi Child — and said the Wednesday night praise and worship service will be held at Patriot Park for the celebration. The council approved a proclamation designating June 27 through July 4, 2026 as Semiquincentennial/Centennial Celebration Week in Dadeville; Mayor Chuck Led Better is recorded as the proclamation signatory in the meeting text.

The announcement was presented as an informational update; the coin‑hunt and event logistics will be handled by the Beautification Board and participating businesses.
