Bern supervisors open public hearing on Wayne Street vacation ordinance

Bern Township Board of Supervisors Chair Irene Reed opened a public hearing on Jan. 4 on a proposed ordinance to vacate Wayne Street, which links Tully Lane and South Tulpehocken Road to Mercer Street in the City of Reading. The hearing was held by teleconference and was advertised in the Reading Eagle.

Brian Potts, the township manager, said the township attorney, Keith Mooney, prepared the ordinance and that letters were sent to residents affected by the proposal. Potts described the ordinance as relating specifically to the portion of Wayne Street that connects Tully Lane and South Tulpehocken Road to Mercer Street in Reading. No formal action on the ordinance was taken at the meeting; the board opened the hearing to receive information and comment per the advertised notice.

The hearing will allow residents and the board to address the proposed street vacation and any impacts on access or property interests. Additional procedural steps, including any further hearings or votes, were not scheduled on the record at the Jan. 4 meeting.
