Bern Township board approves advertisement of $4.66 million 2022 budget with no tax increase

Bern Township supervisors voted on Nov. 1 to advertise the township’s proposed 2022 budget of $4,655,895, a plan Manager Brian Potts told the Board includes no tax increase and would be balanced in part by using reserves.

“the 2022 budget is $4,655,895 and does not include a tax increase,” Potts said as he presented the figures. He told the Board the budget reflects a $53,070 (1.1 percent) increase over 2021 and that the township plans to use $209,305 from reserves to balance the budget.

Supervisors asked for confirmation that recycling, trash, light-district and fire-protection tax rates would not change; Potts confirmed there were no service reductions or fee increases planned. The Board voted unanimously to advertise the budget, which starts the public-notice process ahead of final adoption.

Next steps include the statutory advertising period and public comment opportunities prior to a final vote on adoption at a future meeting.
