Bern supervisors accept $2,400 donation and approve purchase of two patrol rifles

Bern Township supervisors unanimously accepted a $2,400 monetary donation designated for the Police Equipment Fund and approved purchasing two Colt 11.5" Enhanced Patrol Rifles at a total cost of $2,400.

Police Chief Wesley Waugh asked the board to accept the donation and to authorize the rifle purchase. The motion to accept the donation and the separate motion to buy the rifles were made by Supervisor Jeff Thompson and seconded by Dr. Boyd Wagner III; both motions passed with votes in favor from Dr. Wagner, Brian Eveland, Daniel Tobias, Mr. Thompson and Chair Irene Reed.

The donation was designated by the donor specifically for patrol rifles and the board recorded that the gift will be deposited into the Police Equipment Fund. The purchase approval follows the donation and, per the motion, the rifles will be procured as requested by the police department.

No public discussion or opposing votes were recorded during the motions. The board did not identify additional costs or a vendor beyond the rifle model specified in the motion.

The board’s action completes the equipment purchase authorization; staff will follow routine procurement and inventory procedures to receive and record the new equipment.
