Florence expands pool programming, resurfaces pools and increases swim-lesson capacity to 540

Florence officials said the town completed upgrades to its aquatic facilities, expanded programming and extended open-swim hours to meet resident demand. Paul King, director of community services, said both pools were resurfaced with Pebble Tec/Pebble Sheen materials, lounge chairs were added to the deck, and slides were waxed to improve speed and enjoyment.

King described an expanded schedule: through the July 19 school start, open swim runs Monday'Thursday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Fridays 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a family evening swim from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; the town added Monday and Wednesday evening open swim from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and after-school weekday swim sessions will run Monday'Friday until 7:30 p.m. King said lifeguard in-service training is held weekly and the evening slots help maintain staff readiness.

On programming, King said council awarded additional funding for seasonal programming (transcript did not include motion or vote details) and the town substantially increased swim-lesson capacity: last year the program taught 210 children; this year the stated capacity is 540. He added that open-swim general admissions have exceeded 6,400 visits in the last month (a figure King said excludes lessons, fitness aquatics and other program uses).
