Public service announcement: heat-safety advisory from DeKalb County

DeKalb County issued a public service announcement warning of dangerously high temperatures over the coming week and offering three safety tips: stay indoors during the hottest part of the day; drink plenty of water and seek shade or air conditioning; and check on seniors and people experiencing homelessness. The county said community day centers are operating as cooling centers providing free water, showers, laundry, case management and other supportive services. Officials provided a dedicated senior line, 770-322-2950, for people seeking help or information. The announcement also said DeKalb County employees who can work remotely should do so under a new remote work policy to reduce harmful emissions and promote safety; staff will receive additional instructions from department managers. The message closed by urging residents to take precautions, look after neighbors and pets, and stay hydrated.
