Council approves first reading for Battleground Place PRD amendment to allow 10 townhomes

The Murfreesboro City Council on July 2 approved on first reading an amendment to the Planned Residential District (PRD) for a 1.45-acre lot in the Battleground Place subdivision that would allow the developer to build 10 single-family attached townhome units.

Matt Taylor of SCC presented the proposal, describing a project with private streets maintained by a homeowners association, a small amenity area and landscape buffers to the north and east where existing detached single-family homes are located. He said the units would be a minimum of 1,400 square feet, one or two stories, with front-entry garages and a maximum height of 35 feet.

Taylor said the site directly abuts commercial zoning and uses along West Northfield Boulevard and that the city's Comprehensive Plan includes a transition policy the council may apply in such cases. The Planning Commission held a public hearing on May 6 and recommended approval, Taylor added.

There were no public speakers during the council's hearing on this item. After the presentation the council closed the public hearing and moved Ordinance 2623 on first reading by roll call.

The ordinance now proceeds per the council's code for additional readings or actions required before final adoption.
