Planning board accepts application to consider discontinuing unbuilt Quaker Run paper street

The Mashpee Planning Board accepted a definitive-subdivision application July 1 from Baxter Engineering and Aquay Real Estate to consider discontinuing an unbuilt paper street between 34 and 28 Quaker Run Road.

Applicant representative Charlie Rowley told the board the paper street dates to 1947, was never constructed and now impedes parcel usability. Rowley said monuments exist that locate the paper-street alignment but that on-site the way is wooded and there is no evidence of a cleared road. He said the discontinuance would clear deeded encumbrances and allow the parcels to be useable.

The board voted to accept the application and scheduled the public hearing for July 15. Town staff said the application will include title work and the town will have counsel review ownership and any easements before the board acts on discontinuance.

Next steps: applicant will provide photos and the town will notify abutters; town counsel will review interests in the paper street before any vote to extinguish it.
