Staff updates: Sunnyside progress, Mayfair Meadows grant pending, splash pad repair and automation options

Parks staff updated the board on a series of projects and operational items at the meeting.

Sunnyside: Staff said Sunnyside park is close to returning to public use: a new well pump has been installed, a concrete pad was poured and electric controls are scheduled for installation. Staff described follow-up work including tree placement, hydroseeding and irrigation, and said they hope to complete a final walk-through this summer.

Mayfair Meadows: Staff reported that work tied to Mayfair Meadows remains on hold until confirmation of Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) support from the National Park Service; the grant's condition prevents site work until funding is officially awarded.

Splash pad: Staff said a pump installed last year failed on the first day and they are pursuing warranty coverage. The board discussed options to improve splash pad safety and operations, including integrating the splash pad controller with the city's supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA) to permit remote shutdowns for lightning and possibly automatic restart sequences, installing lightning sensors, and providing public notification (for example, a red/green indicator on the website). Staff cautioned that streaming cameras could raise liability concerns and said IT and parks staff will continue researching workable solutions.

Recreation programming: Staff reported that the farmers market ran three weeks with positive vendor feedback and that the department plans to survey vendors and attendees to refine next year's schedule. Staff also reported progress on Civic Rec (an online registration and events platform) and efforts to make the senior-center events available with appropriate prerequisites.

Forestry and tree guide: Staff said more than 500 trees have been inventoried for the street-tree guide, which is near completion. The guide will be used by the city, developers and the public; staff plan outreach to HOAs and to fold the guide into subdivision and site-review processes.

What happens next: staff will continue to pursue LWCF confirmation, pursue warranty work on the splash pad pump, work with IT on possible SCADA integration and public notification options, survey farmers market participants at season
end, and finalize the street-tree guide for adoption and outreach.
