Cameron County allocates Act 13 funds for elder-care cameras, township roads and recreation-center technology

Cameron County commissioners approved multiple Act 13 grant allocations and related new-business items, directing funding toward elder-care security, township road repairs and upgrades at the county recreation center.

The board unanimously approved funding to complete a comprehensive security-camera installation at Guy and Mary Felt Manor, authorizing the requested $19,390 balance to strengthen resident and staff surveillance and reduce liability concerns.

Lumber Township received $50,000 toward a roughly $83,457 buminous coating project that will cover about two miles across routes T301, T303 and T327; commissioners said Act 13 was an appropriate fit because it funds infrastructure and transportation improvements. The board also unanimously approved a $12,500 request from Driftwood Borough to address potholes and localized road deterioration; officials noted Driftwood resubmitted a multimodal grant application but that timing and state budget delays made county assistance urgent.

The board reviewed updated quotes for the recreation-center revitalization project — including wireless access points, a desktop conferencing setup for closed-door proctored testing and Chromebooks — and approved quote #33396 for $5,130.50. Commissioners said the updated quote was lower than an original estimate because some wiring and work was completed already, and they recommended purchasing new machines rather than refurbished units given anticipated frequency of use.

After the approvals, the board reported a remaining Act 13 balance of about $266,626.30. A commissioner proposed a future agenda item to set aside seed infrastructure funding for a dark-sky park to support implementation grants.

Other actions taken during the meeting included approval of a mobile communications customer-support plan and acceptance with regret of maintenance supervisor Henry Jack Wilson’s resignation, effective Aug. 21, 2026.
