Residents urge care on future land use plan, raising concerns about infrastructure and rural definitions

During the public comment period on May 22, 2026, multiple residents raised concerns about the forthcoming Wilson County future land use plan, arguing that the plan should better preserve agricultural land and clearly define 'rural' living.

Perry Neal (1000 Murphy Lane) reviewed concerns about the future land use plan and the county’s rural/agricultural definition and road infrastructure. Michael Swope (2021 Bobo Road) urged responsible growth and raised questions about infrastructure, taxes, and the definition of rural living. Luke Mires of Mt. Juliet expressed concerns about infrastructure, traffic, population growth, current R‑1 zoning classifications, and rezoning fees. Phil Neal emphasized preserving agricultural land and slowing new residential development.

Mayor Randall Hutto addressed the meeting and outlined infrastructure responsibilities the county is accountable for during planning and growth management discussions.
