Board approves revised job description for Special Education Program Coordinator

The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board voted Dec. 8 to approve a revised job description for a Special Education Program Coordinator.

The revised description, presented by Dr. Curt Green, sets a 12-month, externally funded position and lists responsibilities including coordinating classes and paraeducators, ensuring compliance with IDEA and Louisiana Act 754, supervising required recordkeeping, representing the special education department at IEP meetings, coordinating preschool and adapted physical education programs, and serving as transition coordinator for students with disabilities.

Minimum qualifications in the document include a valid Type A Louisiana teaching certificate, at least three years of successful classroom experience with exceptional students, a master’s degree from a regionally accredited university, and certification in at least two areas of special education (one of which must be Mild/Moderate). The board voted to approve the revised job description on a roll call vote of nine yeas with two members absent (Keller and Jones).
