Board introduces several revised policies on meeting procedures, ethics and superintendent duties

At the Aug. 18 meeting the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board received introductions to a package of revised policies covering board meeting procedures, ethics, the legal status of members, superintendent responsibilities and employment, and sports injury and concussion protocols.

Dr. Curt Green introduced Policy BCB (School Board Meeting Procedures), which includes changes to time and place of meetings, notice requirements, agenda closing deadlines, quorum and voting procedures, committee rules and officer elections. Policy BE (School Board Ethics) was introduced, setting annual ethics training, gift restrictions, nepotism limits and disclosure rules consistent with state law. Policy ABC (Board Members Legal Status) clarifies legal duties, limits of authority, and oath and recordkeeping procedures for board members.

The superintendent-related policies — CE (School Superintendent) and CED (Employment of Superintendent) — were presented for introduction; they address delegation of duties, appointment terms, contract requirements and removal or interim-superintendent provisions. The board also reviewed proposed Policy IDFAB on sports injury management and the district’s concussion protocols, including removal-from-play rules and return-to-play clearances aligned with Louisiana statutes.

Each policy was introduced "for introduction only" per the minutes; no final votes on the policy texts were recorded at this meeting. The printed policy language was included in the meeting packet and will be considered at a future meeting for adoption, amendment or placement on a subsequent agenda.
