Board approves interim superintendent contract, grants signing authority and gives settlement authority in employee case

At the May 26 meeting, the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board approved the Interim Superintendent’s contract for Rebecca Johnson and authorized the board president to sign the agreement on behalf of the board.

Mr. Shawn Wallace presented the Executive Committee’s recommendation. The motions carried on roll calls recorded in the minutes. The board also voted to convene into executive session to discuss three pending litigation matters (Fulcrum Enterprises, LLC v. St. John the Baptist Parish School Board; Shondrell Perrilloux Campbell v. St. John the Baptist Parish Public School Board; and Lydia Trammell v. St. John the Baptist Parish School Board, OWCA No. 21-01942). The board reconvened in regular session and then voted to give settlement authority to Joshua Cockfield in the Lydia Trammell matter.

Additionally, the board approved a district organizational chart as presented; that motion passed on roll call with one recorded nay (Burl) and one absence. The minutes record these governance and personnel actions but do not include detailed contract language or the financial terms of the settlement authority.

The board handled the executive-session motions and the settlement authorization in closed session as required by law for pending litigation; the public minutes record the votes taken on settlement authority when the board reconvened.
