The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board voted June 9 to adopt several revised policies affecting instruction and employee practices.
The board approved revisions to IDCC (Kindergarten), which establishes full-day kindergarten for children who turn 5 on or before Sept. 30, requires a beginning-of-year readiness assessment and directs that parents be informed of readiness results. The policy cites La. Rev. Stat. Ann. §§17:24.4, 17:151.3 and Bulletin 741 of the Louisiana Department of Education.
Board members also approved revised Policy JCD (Student Conduct), which describes expected student behavior, progressive disciplinary tiers, orientation requirements and appeal procedures; revised Policy GBRIB (Sick Leave), which clarifies sick and extended sick leave, certification requirements and provisions related to assault or physical contact with students; and revised Policy GBDA governing the employment of retired personnel and related reporting requirements to state retirement systems.
Each motion passed by roll call with the votes recorded in the meeting minutes. The policies include references to Louisiana statutes and required procedures; details such as exact statutory citations are listed in the adopted policy texts.
