Boyne Falls Public School District approves $443,444 flooring bid and contracts for new playground and surfacing

The Boyne Falls Public School District Board of Education approved a series of facility upgrades at a special meeting July 2 in the Board Conference Room.

Board member Powers moved and Loper supported a motion to accept Continental Flooring’s bid of $443,444 for district floor replacement; the motion carried 4 to 0. The superintendent had reported the district received three bids: Continental Flooring ($443,444), River City Flooring ($539,180) and Ritsema ($845,625), and recommended accepting the Continental Flooring bid.

The board also approved a playground purchase from Landscape Structures for the district’s primary play area. The superintendent said the current main playground structure, in use since 1999, needs replacement and that administration and paraprofessionals selected the Volo Playbooster model.

Separately, the board approved a proposal to replace the current rubber mulch and wood fiber surfacing with Forever Lawn synthetic grass paired with 1-inch Safety Foam Pro, which the superintendent said meets a maximum fall height of 8 feet for the chosen equipment. The motion to approve the Forever Lawn proposal passed 4 to 0 (mover: Loper; support: Powers).

The board also authorized a contract with Penchura for removal, excavation, installation and restoration of the playground equipment and surfacing. That motion was made by Mulvaney with support from Loper and carried 4 to 0.

The superintendent additionally reported that the district received a quote from Payne and Dolan for parking lot milling and resurfacing and that staff are looking for a week when the lot could be closed for the work; no formal action on the parking lot was recorded.

The meeting opened at 7:30 a.m. and was adjourned at 7:51 a.m. after a motion by Powers supported by Loper that carried 4 to 0.
