Votes at a glance: appointments, transfers, contracts and executive session

At its July 1 meeting the Brookfield Select Board voted on a range of routine and time‑sensitive items. Key outcomes recorded in open session:

- Interim town administrator contract: approved. Board reviewed a corrected draft and voted to accept the interim contract as submitted.

- Apple Country Radio license: approved; board accepted payments and signed the agreement (see separate item).

- Roller rink property: board voted to ask staff/Light to investigate disposal options and report back (direction approved).

- End‑of‑year transfers: board reviewed and signed transfers covering administrative wages, legal, veterans case work and other lines.

- Appointments: John Couture appointed temporary alternate building inspector; Herb Chaffy authorized to provide paving recommendations and staff will consider a highway steering committee; FY27 appointments (cultural council, EMS positions, others) were ratified with one abstention noted.

- Vacation carryovers: approved as submitted, with board discussion of targets to reduce carried balances in the following year.

- Yankee Steeplejack contract: ratified for bell tower repair; board discussed wood species used and possible maintenance scheduling.

- School roof contract: board signed a contract for the elementary school roof (approx. $870,000) to allow work to proceed before school opens; staff said any overrun was small (under $10,000) and paperwork must be completed by July 31.

- Executive session: board voted by roll call to enter executive session to discuss strategy with respect to collective bargaining with the New England Police Association and invited interim town administrator Ble Robinson to join; the board said it would reconvene only to adjourn.

All approvals described above were recorded in open session; when members abstained the meeting transcript records the abstention but the motion moved forward where noted.
