The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board approved several procurement and contracting items during its June 5 meeting.
Ryan Smith of Volkert presented a bid from BGSN Mechanical for HVAC work at the St. John STEM Program Building (East St. John High School campus) for $1,167,248.00. The board voted 10–0 with one absence (Vicknair) to accept the bid; the motion was made by Triche and seconded by Frizzell.
The board approved two change orders presented by Ryan Smith: Change Order #1 from Yeates Mancil Architects for LaPlace Elementary School's new gymnasium totaling $37,269.72 and 35 additional days (permitting and insulation work, less a $3,484.05 credit); and Change Order #1 from N‑Y Associates to replace failing copper piping at WSJH (amount $57,015.00, 10 additional days). Both change orders passed on recorded roll calls with 10 yeas and one absence (Vicknair).
Ms. Jennifer Frizzell successfully moved to grant administration an exception to the budget‑deadline provisions in Board Policy DC to allow additional time to prepare the 2025–2026 operating budget; the motion passed 10–0 with one absence.
Dr. Cleo Perry and Joe Keeney requested approval of a six‑month agreement with 4th Sector Solutions, Inc. for accounting, financial and grants management services. The board approved the agreement (9 yeas, 1 abstention by Burl, 1 absent Vicknair).
A proposal from Samsara was presented by Mr. Anthony Miller but was tabled after a motion by Morris and a second by Mamou (roll call 10 yeas, 1 absent). On transportation, after discussion and withdrawn substitute motions, the board approved a final motion by Frizzell, seconded by Triche, to purchase 2 SPED buses and 1 regular education bus this summer, using IDEA funds if possible. The final bus purchase vote recorded 9 yeas and 2 absent (Burl, Vicknair).
