Board reviews enrollment study, administrative hires and strategic-plan progress

District staff presented a comprehensive enrollment study at the April 24 workshop and outlined administrative steps the district plans to take to stabilize enrollment.

Jason Reinecke reported that declines in Y5/K enrollment are comparable to neighboring districts and said the study found families had left GHAPS primarily because of a specific incident while associated with the district. Reinecke reviewed recommendations including policy updates, consistent handbooks across buildings, mentorship for administrators, and work by the Student Success Team; trustees suggested including students in Recommendation #2.

Trustees approved motion 17-840 to offer employment contracts to new administrative hires for the 2026-27 school year, carried 6-0. Superintendent Kristin Perkowski provided a strategic-plan update showing second- and third-quarter status on objectives, and staff reported improved monthly budget reporting and enhanced community communications through key-communicator groups and an online dashboard.

Student Representative McKenna Twa reported on upcoming senior events and said serving as student representative helped her prepare to share student perspectives; trustees agreed to move the Student Representative application timeline to the spring for the next school year.

The board recessed twice during the meeting for short breaks and later convened a closed session to consider attorney-client privileged materials.
