Afton authorizes staff to seek Wyoming Business Council grant for Hospital Lane and Adams Street work

The Afton Town Council on Feb. 9 authorized Town Administrator Hyun Kim to begin preparing a grant application to the Wyoming Business Council for the proposed Hospital Lane and Adams Street Improvement Project.

Why it matters: The project would fund street improvements in a central area of town; using recaptured funds from Star Valley Medical Center as the local match could reduce the town's need to identify additional matching dollars.

Hyun Kim discussed the grant application process and said he plans to use recaptured funds received from Star Valley Medical Center for the Town's matching funds and that he would follow up with the medical center. Jason Linford of Sunrise Engineering presented cost estimates for the Hospital Lane and Adams Street project and noted that Larry Lancaster, Director of Public Utilities, had demonstrated the SCADA system to the Afton Utility Board as part of system monitoring for water infrastructure.

At the Mayor's request, Councilman Jason C. Inskeep moved to allow Kim to begin work on the grant application to be submitted to the Wyoming Business Council; Councilman Jerry Hansen seconded the motion and it carried. A public hearing on the grant application was scheduled for Feb. 17, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. at Afton Town Hall.

The Council did not yet adopt any construction contract or appropriate construction funds; the action authorizes pursuit of grant funding and schedules the required public hearing.
