Afton council appoints police chief, forms tourism board and approves bills

The Afton Town Council on March 15 appointed Randy Haderlie as the town's police chief and confirmed a five-member Tourism Promotion Board, the council said.

Mayor Joel Neuenschwander presented Haderlie for appointment; Councilman Rick Merritt moved to accept the mayor's recommendation and Councilman Jerry Hansen seconded. The motion carried and Haderlie was appointed Afton Police Chief.

The council also agreed to create a Tourism Promotion Board with five members serving staggered terms. Mayor Neuenschwander nominated Tim Allred, Lynn Call, Winston White, Bryant McKen and Eddie Hunsaker; Councilman Jerry Hansen moved to approve the slate with three four-year terms and two two-year terms, Councilman Bill Hoopes seconded, and the motion carried.

The council approved the consent agenda (minutes from Feb. 9 and Feb. 17 and licenses/permits for February) on a motion by Councilman Rick Merritt, seconded by Councilman Bill Hoopes, and then approved payment of bills for the period ending Feb. 29, 2016 (motion by Bill Hoopes, seconded by Jerry Hansen). The bills list included payroll, insurance and vendor payments; the council reviewed the line items during the meeting.

Town Administrator Hyun Kim presented parks and recreation revenues and expenditures and told the council the town anticipates reduced revenues from the state for the upcoming fiscal year. The council scheduled a public budget workshop for March 29, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. at Afton Town Hall and invited public participation.

The council concluded its business and adjourned at 9:00 p.m. The next regular meeting is set for April 12, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. at Afton Town Hall.
